Firefox Integration Update
The FavoriteSync Firefox extension is not longer the recommended way of integrating FavoriteSync with Firefox. Instead the PlainOldFavorites Firefox extension should be used.

They both enable you to access the same set of Favorites in both browsers. The difference is that while the FS FF extension syncs Favorites with Bookmarks, PlainOldFavorites makes the Favorites available as an extra menu in Firefox. The latter method is technically much less resource demanding due to the significant difference in underlying implementation of Favorites and Bookmarks. This fact has shown up to be so important that the FavoriteSync extension will not longer be supported and instead the PlainOldFavorites extension is strongly recommended.

FavoriteSync update
I have recieved a few questions about the current state of FavoriteSync:

FavoriteSync is not in active development anymore and has not been so for the past half year or so. This is partly due to the limited time the developers have and partly due to the fact that it is a "semi - nonprofit" (barely surviving to pay for the server from subscriptions) effort. It might have been possible to steeply increase the fee and provide more support but the current thinking is to keep it as cheep as possible and live with the current set of issues.

Having said that, there is no plan to shut down the current service which has (with the exception of the 06-07 new years weekend) been highly available throughout its operation.

There might still be future extensions, modifications to the software but there is nothing currently planned.

Re: Temporary Fix for Firefox 2.0
Sorry for the delay in update and thanks for the very good recomendation. PlainOldFavorites is now the officially recomended tool to integrate with FavoriteSync.

Btw, the reason for not upgrading the FavoriteSync Firefox plugin to FF2 is that the basic operation of the plugin, to sync Bookmarks with Favorites, is much more resource demanding than the method of providing access to the Favorites from Firefox. This means that the method proposed in PlainOldFavorites will simply perform better than what the FS FF plugin ever could. The decision was therefore made to abort the FS FF plugin and leverage the power of PlainOldFavorites.

Re: Any plans to do a client for Mac OS X?
Add another vote for me.

I think this is a great lightweight unobtrusive program. I would love it to get a firmer foothoold by being usable on multiple os-es (what for many people is the reason to be on another computer)

Re: Unable to sync
Hi Stefan,

I have now found the solution to my problem.

I recently bought a new house and when we moved I got new IP addresses.

I thought I had already checked this, but apparantly I didn't - but in my FTP Server I had to set the IP for PASV manually and this was still set to old IP. As soon as I changed it, I could sync again. smile smile smile

Paid for activation but nothing happens
Hi,

I've renewed my subscription april 10th 2007 but this time the activation failed though PayPal has withdrawn the money from my account.

I've written twice to [email protected] (the only email address I can find) and haven't heard anything at all. Anyone heard from the author lately??

Seems like I've lost my $6 so I would recommend others not to subscribe until we've have a clear indication that the problem has been solved...

Thanks,
Kasper

Re: Firefox 2.0 ext.
I recommend installing the Firefox Add-on "PlainOldFavorites". This Add-on will provide the Microsoft IE favorites within a drop-down menu and you can add, remove and modify your favorites from there. You will still have your bookmarks if you have them, but they will not synchronise with FavoriteSync.

You can download the Add-on from:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/668

Your favorites will still sync and you will still have the benefits of FavoriteSync.

I hope this helps many others out there who have been annoyed that these guys have failed to provide a decent fix for Firefox version 2.x

Regards,
Jock. smile
